If you’ve been part of our sanctuary family for a while, you’ve probably heard me talk about El Niño before.
Every few years, it brings months of drought to Colombia. For our more than 180 rescued animals, that means much more than hotter days. It means the grass they depend on begins to disappear, water becomes scarcer, and one of our biggest challenges begins.
As the pastures dry up, we have to replace what nature can no longer provide by purchasing hay, alfalfa, and other forage every single day.
The problem is that we’re not the only ones looking for it.
As farms across the country face the same drought, demand for hay and alfalfa increases while supplies become more limited. Prices rise just as we need more food to care for the animals who depend entirely on us.
Our animals don’t need less food because costs go up. They still wake up hungry every morning, and they still deserve the same love and care they’ve always received.
That’s why I’m asking for your help before El Niño reaches its worst.
Preparing now allows us to secure food while it’s still available and to face the months ahead without compromising the care our animals deserve.
